Each year opportunities are made available to bright and dynamic college students to view, first hand, the workings of government. While you are here, we hope to do several things to make this the most productive experience you have had to date. What does it mean to be an intern?

An internship in Senator Kennedy’s office is a opportunity to learn first hand about the political process on a national level. Many of our intern alumni have gone on to careers in politics and public policy, while others pursue graduate degrees in their fields of interest. As an intern for Senator Kennedy, you have the opportunity to gain greater understanding of policy issues and the legislative process. Intern responsibilities vary among Kennedy policy offices, but general responsibilities may include drafting correspondence, following legislation, and assisting staff with research projects. As an intern, you will learn many of the qualities that are necessary to be a valued employee in whatever you eventually choose. These skills you learn by working in Senator Kennedy’s office will serve you in the years ahead.

Why would I want to be an intern?

The responsibilities given to interns enable them to gain the skills necessary to pursue future, fulltime employment on Capitol Hill or other policy and administrative offices. Typically, in applying for full-time employment on Capitol Hill, having served as an intern is a significant asset. Interns acquire an understanding of the political ---- and the, work environment. The skills gained are broad and lend themselves well to any career choice.

What are the eligibility requirements for interns?

Most of our interns are juniors or seniors in college or graduate students. Who have a significant interest in politics and government, and also have an understanding of Senator Kennedy’s policy priorities, values, and voting record. Internships are open to a variety of majors, and typically have a diverse range of educational backgrounds. An internship in Senator Kennedy���s office is often a gateway to a wide range of careers.

What is the application process?

Applicants must submit the complete and submit the web-form below. Those selected for further review may be invited to an interview or asked to submit writing samples. The deadline to apply for the summer program (months: May through August) is March 1st; the deadline to apply for the fall program internship is July 1st; the deadline to apply for the spring program internship is November 1st.
